Military deploys container security system The U.S. Transportation Command said it has deployed a container security system that detects tampering and helps protect military container shipments moving from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
   USTRANSCOM, based at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., said it is using a security system provided by GE Security Inc. called CommerceGuard for intrusion detection and tracking for containers being transported to the port of Karachi.
   Handheld readers are used a checkpoints to read container security devices that can alert USTRANSCOM if doors have been opened without authorization. Logistics managers can use the data to determine when and where containers were opened.
   The system is also being used commercially used by shippers today, and fixed readers are deployed at more than 20 seaports around the world.
