Milwaukee port impacts 1,416 jobs, $2 bn trade

The Port of Milwaukee says an economic impact study estimates it creates 1,416 jobs in Wisconsin.
Of the 1,416 jobs, 624 jobs were directly generated by the marine cargo and vessel activity at the marine terminals at the Port of Milwaukee.
As a result of the local and regional purchases by the 624 individuals holding the direct jobs, an
additional 498 induced jobs were supported in the regional economy, and 294 indirect jobs were supported by $24 million of regional purchases by businesses supplying services at the marine terminals at the port, said the study performed by Martin Associates of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Business revenue, as determined by the study, added up to more than $145-million from the impact of cargo and vessel activity. Business revenue for related users, a measure of the total value of economic activity that is supported by the cargo moving through the Port of Milwaukee, amounts to nearly $2 billion, the port said.
