MINETA NAMES FLAHERTY DOT CHIEF OF STAFF

   U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta has named John A. Flaherty as chief of state of the Department of Transportation.

   Flaherty had served as Mineta's chief of staff and district director from 1988 to 1992 when Mineta was a member of Congress. During this time, the Intermodal Surface Transportation Act of 1991 was passed.

   Flaherty had served as chief of staff for Rep. Anna G. Eshoo of California since 1998, as well as from 1993 to 1996. He also worked for the Washington public affairs firms Winner/Wagner and Associates from 1996 and 1997, and podesta.com from 1997 to 1998.
