Minneapolis barge traffic returns

Barges can now make their way past the Interstate 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened a shipping channel on the Mississippi River, local KSTP-TV reported on its Web site.

The Corps said it has removed all debris from the channel.

Most grain loadings have not been affected by the closure because they take place downstream from the accident site.

The Interstate highway bridge fell into the river on Aug. 1, killing 13 people. An investigation into the cause is still continuing.
