MISC Berhard stays in South Africa trade

The Malaysian shipping company MISC Berhad said it would introduce a new dedicated Asia/South Africa service starting March 2009.

The new service rotation will include the Port of Tanjung Pelepas plus other Southeast Asia ports and provide customers with significant additional capacity, the carrier said.

“K” Line and Pacific International Lines said last week they would break away from MISC Berhad to offer their own joint weekly service from Asia to South Africa starting from early March.

MISC said Monday while it was leaving the longstanding consortia, it expected “to continue cooperation with 'K' Line and PIL in the trade through slot exchanges.”

It said further details of the service plans would be announced in January.
