Missouri shipper fined $220,000 for illegal exports    The U.S. Commerce Department assessed a $222,000 civil penalty against Midway Arms of Columbia, Mo., for illegal exports of firearm scopes and mounts.
   The department’s Bureau of Industry and Security agreed to suspend $88,000 of the penalty for a period of one year and thereafter waive that amount if Midway does not commit any more export violations.
   The agency charged that on 275 occasions between April 1999 and July 2001, Midway exported firearm scopes and mounts to Canada without the required export licenses. The agency also charged that on 93 occasions between May 1999 and September 2002, Midway shipped these same components to Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Finland, Mexico, the Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay without the required export licenses.
   According to the Bureau of Industry and Security, Midway cooperated fully with the investigation.
