Mobileweight launches mobile VGM submission solution

The new mobile supply chain solutions provider unveiled its free platform for inputting container weight verification data that integrates with INTTRA’s eVGM solution.    The new mobile supply chain solutions provider Mobileweight said Wednesday it has begun offering a tool to help shippers and forwarders comply with the International Maritime Organization’s new Safety of Life at Sea convention (SOLAS) verified gross mass (VGM) rule.
   As of July 1, SOLAS requires shippers to provide VGM for containers in advance of vessel loading. The new provider is offering a free mobile application, available for Apple iOS and Google Android devices, as well as a website portal, allowing shippers to file their VGM from the point of loading and transmit it through INTTRA to every major carrier, said Dan Gardner, director of global sales.
   INTTRA announced in March that it will offer an electronic VGM filing solution.
   “Our entire industry is scrambling to find an easy, reliable way to comply with SOLAS – and Mobileweight was created to deliver that solution to shippers, forwarders and (non-vessel-operating common carriers) around the world,” Gardner said.
   The booking can be accessed through the mobile app or computer by all participants along the intermodal supply chain including drayage companies, suppliers, warehouse teams or 3PLs,” Mobileweight said. To enter the VGM, the user has the option to simply enter the combined gross mass or enter the cargo and container tare weights separately. Mobileweight also accepts photos of approved scale tickets with built-in optical character recognition functionality.
