The subsidiary is MOL Information Systems, Ltd., which builds, maintains, and manages systems and networks in the MOL Group.
The IBM technology, the “SPSS Modeler,” consists of advanced data analysis software that MOL said provides analysis from mass volume of data and supports better decision making to solve business issues.
The MOL Group has conventionally aggregated incidents and problems data reported by its operated vessels, but moving forward, the group says that it’s developing more effective measures to prevent incidents and verify the effects by analyzing correlations and causal relationship of data from multiple sources.
For example, operation data, crewmember data and vessel inspection data are among those to be used, MOL said.
In addition, MOL announced that it would build a new analysis method using text mining for some elements of data, such as near misses, gathered from crewmembers. Text mining is analysis method for text data that retrieves useful information by dividing data comprised of documents by word and paragraph, and analyzing the correlation of frequencies of words, frequency of commonly used words and time sequence.
In October, MOL said, it completed a three-month trial during which it built analysis models that could verify causal relationship of information on crewmembers, such as downtime problems and years of onboard experience.
