MOL launches training vessel

MOL launches training vessel Tokyo-based MOL on Sunday launched its first training vessel, the Spirit of MOL, as part of the Japanese company’s efforts to improve the safety of vessel operations.
   The 4,878-ton, 106-meter (348 feet) vessel has a training bridge on a floor above the actual bridge. MOL also has about 10 full-time instructors, who will provide education and practical training to 180 trainees from different nations per session.
   The training vessel will sail out in a few days to Manila, one of the company's main bases of human resources. Filipino and Russian cadets will train onboard as the first cadets of this new training program. Their training voyage, from the Philippines to India, begins July 16. The first onboard training will last four to six months, and is mainly for cadets who do not have practical vessel experience.
