MOL PROMOTES HAYASHI, SATO TO EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENTS

    Joji (George) Hayashi, the former chairman of APL who joined Mitsui
O.S.K. Lines last year, has been promoted group executive president of the Japanese
shipping company.
    Hayashi, who will remain chairman, president and chief executive
officer of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (America) Inc., has also been named chairman of Mitsui
O.S.K. Lines (Europe) Ltd.
    Hayashi will head liner shipping at MOL, replacing Makoto Ishii, chief
executive officer, liner division, who is retiring.
   Kazuo Sato, previously senior managing director, has also been promoted group
executive vice president.
    Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said that Hayashi, a U.S. national, cannot be named
a director of the group because of Japanese laws. Hayashi participates in the management
board as an associate director.
