MOL TP reliability up in 2Q

The liner carrier MOL saw on-time arrival improvements on its North America services in the second quarter of 2013, while performance fell off on its Asia-Europe services, according to quarterly data provided by the line.
On-time performance on Asia-U.S. West Coast services from April through June was 92 percent, up from 87 percent in the first quarter, and the highest rate for any quarter over the last 12 months. Asia-U.S. East Coast on-time percentage was 76 percent, up from 70 percent in the first quarter, and the highest mark since the third quarter of 2012.
Transatlantic on-time percentage was 78 percent, up from 74 percent in the first quarter, though still below marks achieved in the second half of 2012.
Meanwhile, on-time performance faltered in the Asia-Europe trade in the second quarter. To Northern Europe, the on-time rate was 60 percent, down from 63 percent in the second quarter, and the lowest performance over the past 12 months. To the Mediterranean, vessels were on time 42 percent, down from 73 percent in the first quarter.
“In Q2 2013, the weather in the Pacific Ocean was stable, allowing the on-time performance of Asia-USWC services to resume to over 90 percent,” MOL said in a statement. “An even higher level of performance was expected, but was not achieved due to the impact on vessels by a labor strike in Hong Kong.
“Due to adverse weather conditions at Rotterdam, the transatlantic on time performance for all vessels improved only slightly. MOL’s vessels were less affected and reached 89 percent punctuality. Asia-Europe/Med services were significantly affected by the strike in Hong Kong while Med services also suffered from congestion in Ashdod, which further delayed their eastbound schedule,” the company added. – Eric Johnson
