MOL training ship begins operations

Mitsui O.S. K. Lines said it started training seamen on a new training vessel called the Spirit of MOL last week, and departed on its first voyage today from Manila.

On its initial voyage, the ship will train about 70 Filipino and Russian trainees. The trainees will start an intensive program lasting three to six months. Also onboard are 33 seafarers and seven experienced instructors.

The company plans to conduct most of the training voyages between the Philippines and India in the future.

The training ship, constructed at the Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co. in Fukuyama, has a number of unique features, including a training bridge on a floor above the actual bridge.
