Two high-speed boats attacked the vessel about 480 miles east of Somalia. The vessel sustained some damage to the hull and wheelhouse windows but quickly accelerated and took evasive action. After 40 minutes the pirates gave up their chase, MOL said.
The vessel has a crew of 18 and was carrying 377 used cars at the time of the attack. The cars were loaded in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates last Tuesday and were headed to Mombasa, Kenya.
