MOL’s 4Q on-time rate mixed

   On-time arrival rates on the key east-west trades, namely the transpacific, transatlantic, and Asia-Europe, saw mixed fortunes in the fourth quarter of 2011 for the Japanese liner carrier MOL.
   On the nine Asia-U.S. West Coast services measured by MOL, schedule reliability declined from 95 percent in the third quarter to 92 percent in the fourth quarter. On the four Asia-U.S. East Coast services analyzed, schedule reliability increased from 86 percent in the third quarter to 91 percent in the fourth quarter.
   On the line’s single transatlantic service, schedule reliability fell from 92 percent to 85 percent from the third to fourth quarters. On its six Asia-Europe services, schedule reliability increased from 89 percent to 91 percent in the fourth quarter.
   MOL also reports schedule reliability levels for ships under its own operation separately. For those ships, reliability fell to 84 percent in the fourth quarter from 92 percent in the third quarter on the Asia-U.S. West Coast trade, but improved from 67 percent to 90 percent on the Asia-U.S. East Coast trade.
   On the transatlantic, on-time performance rose from 86 percent to 88 percent, and on the Asia-Europe trade, it fell from 100 percent to 90 percent. MOL operates ships on three Asia-U.S. West Coast, two Asia-U.S. East Coast, one transatlantic, and two Asia-Europe services.
   MOL considers a vessel on time if it arrives within 24 hours of the scheduled arrival date. — Eric Johnson
