MOL’s first ship arrives in Jacksonville

MOL’s first ship arrives in Jacksonville The first Mitsui O.S.K. Lines container vessel to call on Jacksonville arrived Monday evening, marking the first direct container service between Jacksonville and Asian markets.
   The ship MOL Vision arrived six months ahead of the scheduled opening of the new 158-acre TraPac Container Terminal at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s Dames Point property. It traveled from Ningbo, China, through the Panama Canal before reaching Jacksonville, its first U.S. port of call.

   JAXPORT Executive Director Rick Ferrin, who was at the dock to meet the MOL vessel, said it was “a momentous occasion” that will be a “major economic stimulus for our region.”
   As the future base of MOL’s U.S. South Atlantic port activities, TraPac will have a yearly capacity of 800,000 containers and double JAXPORT’s container handling capacity.
