MOL’s Q1 transpacific reliability suffers
Liner carrier MOL said this week its on-time performance worsened in the first quarter on the transpacific and transatlantic trades, but improved between Asia and Europe.
The line said berth congestion related to the Japanese tsunami, bad weather and the Lunar New Year all had a deleterious effect on its performance.
MOL's first quarter performance on all services, including those in which it takes slots but does not operate vessels, was:
' Asia/U.S. West Coast, 93 percent, down from 97 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
' Asia/U.S. East Coast, 83 percent, down from 86 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
Transatlantic, 50 percent, down from 85 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
' Asia/Europe, 92 percent, up from 89 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
The on-time performance of MOL-operated vessels was poorer on the transpacific but better on the transatlantic and Asia-Europe:
' Asia/U.S. West Coast, 90 percent, down from 100 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
' Asia/U.S. East Coast, 69 percent, down from 72 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
' Transatlantic, 56 percent, down from 81 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
' Asia/Europe, 94 percent, up from 84 percent in the fourth quarter 2010.
MOL provides figures for 23 services, 16 transpacific, one transatlantic and five Asia/Europe. The line considers a vessel on time if it arrives within 24 hours of its scheduled arrival. MOL began reporting its on-time performance in April 2010.
