In the July-September period, 87 percent of ships from Asia to the U.S. West Coast were on time, the same as in the second period, while 84 percent were on time to the U.S. East Coast, up from 81 percent in the second period.
On the transatlantic, on-time percentage fell from 97 percent in the second period to 86 percent in the third period.
Asia-Europe reliability, however, fell measurably. To Northern Europe it fell from 87 percent to 69 percent, and to the Mediterranean, it fell from 70 percent to 53 percent.
When only considering ships under MOL’s own operation, reliability was improved. It was 97 percent to the U.S. West Coast, 85 percent to the U.S. East Coast, 88 percent on the transatlantic, 84 percent from Asia to Northern Europe, and 59 percent to the Mediterranean. However, all but the Asia-U.S. West Coast reliability fell from the second quarter.
“While attempting to maintain last quarter’s performance level for overall West Coast and East Coast service, several weather interruptions during the Pacific typhoon season resulted in reduced improvements in service,” MOL said. “Berth congestion in Panama has also had some impact on East Coast services. Nevertheless, MOL-operated West Coast services achieved 97 percent on-time performance.
“Berth congestion also impacted Trans-Atlantic service. Congestion in Bremerhaven and Manzanillo resulted in the on-time rate reduction from 100 percent to 88 percent (for MOL-operated ships).
“Although the Asia-Europe services were negatively affected by inclement weather in Asia and port congestion in Europe, MOL operated ships proudly achieved better results at 84 percent by focusing their efforts on positive on-time performance. Terminal congestion at Mediterranean ports has continued to adversely affect on-time performance of MOL operated vessels since Q1 2012.” – Eric Johnson
