MONTEMAR DROPS PAN-AMERICAN INDEPENDENT NAME

Montemar, the Uruguayan shipping line, said that it has stopped using the name Pan-American Independent Line for its services linking the U.S., Canada and Mexico with the East Coast South America.

The services are now operated under the name Montemar, which is already used for the company’s liner services between Europe and South America.

“We feel that concentrating on one brand identity, which will become the way in which our company is referred to, will strengthen our relationship with multi-trade customers,” a spokesman for the company said.

On the U.S. East Coast/East Coast of South America route, Montemar is one of the carriers in the Independent Carriers Alliance vessel-sharing agreement. The other carrier members are Zim Israel Navigation, Hanjin Shipping and Senator Lines.

Montemar is owned by the Chilean group Compania Sud Americana de Vapores.
