More relief help from Japanese lines

NYK Line said Wednesday it has offered the Japanese government the use of a module carrier as an offshore platform for helicopters to be used to provide relief supplies to the quake-stricken area.

The Yamatai, operated by NYK-Hinode Line Ltd., an NYK Line subsidiary, is on its way to Japan from Korea and is scheduled to arrive March 20. The ship has a flat deck and is usually used to transport plant equipment, but helicopters can take off and land on its deck, the carrier said.

Also on Wednesday, 'K' Line said it would joins compatriot lines NYK and MOL in donating more than $600,000 to the Japan Red Cross to aid quake rescue and support efforts.

' 'K' Line is also studying support measures for the area stricken by the disaster as a business organization centering on shipping so that everyone affected can return to normal life conditions as early as possible,' the line said.
