Motorola radios highlight device trends

Motorola Solutions unveiled its SL Series portable radio and its new XPR 5000 mobile radio to address new issues in the modern logistics environment.
The two devices fall under its MOTOTRBO umbrella that focuses on voice quality, extended battery life, and a large application developer program aimed at increased productivity and enhanced worker safety.
The SL Series weighs less than the average smartphone, and Motorola said it’s aimed the slim design at professionals that move between locations like warehouses and back offices.
The XPR 5000 is geared to professionals in the field and factory with a full-color display for contact lists, text messages, alert and update messages, and applications. The radios feature intelligent audio that adjusts the radio’s volume to fit the environment’s noise level, along with Bluetooth support, integrated GPS and pre-programmed text messaging.
Motorola’s director of professional and commercial radio business operations Paul Cizek said some of the most popular applications for the field and warehouse space are work ticket management, telemetry, dispatch, email, and alarm control.
He noted the new devices have been tested in hospitality and other areas for some time, but were officially announced today.
