MSC adds Puerto Cabello “drop-off” charge
Mediterranean Shipping Co. said this week it will begin charging a $200-per-container 'drop-off” charge at Puerto Cabello in Venezuela through June.The Swiss liner carrier said the charge is a result of 'a new operational port scheme in which Puerto Cabello Port will no longer accept redelivery back of empties from clients inside the port zone.'
The government is trying to induce carriers to bring empties to a new external container yard outside the port, but MSC said that would incur additional costs.
