MSC advises of Subcontinent delays

Swiss carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. said this week that shipments through Port Qasim in Pakistan will likely experience delays due to industrial actions and inclement weather.

'All terminals are suffering problems which is causing ongoing delays for the movement of cargo in Port Qasim,' the carrier said.

MSC also informed customers that delays were inevitable at Nhava Sheva port near Mumbai due to the ongoing cleanup and salvage operation from the collision of a MSC vessel with a bulk carrier on Aug. 7. Services affected by the indefinite suspension of operations at Nhava Sheva are the IPAK, ISES, and South Africa loops.

'Please note that to prevent the further buildup of cargo backlog at the port, we are suspending all further export bookings for cargo loading ex-Nhava Sheva until further notice,' the carrier said.

MSC said it would, however, continue to accept bookings for cargo at North and West Indian inland container depots.
