MSC raises rates from Europe

MSC raises rates from Europe    Liner carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. last week said it is raising rates from Europe to West Africa and the West Coast of South America beginning Oct. 15.
   The rate increase is 100 euros per 20-foot container and 180 euros per 40-foot container, and was necessary 'in view of the current and projected market conditions and increased operating costs,' the carrier said.
   Meanwhile, rates from northern Europe to the West Coast of South America will increase 125 euros per TEU, it said.
   And finally, MSC said the port of Beira, in Mozambique, is suffering from heavy congestion and that 'shipments bound for Beira, including already discharged containers for on-carriage to inland destinations, may suffer from significant delay in delivery.'
