MSC raises rates on Far East-bound cargo

   Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it will increase rates on all commodities from the United States to all Far East destinations on April 1.

   The increase will be as follows:

   ' $225 for 20-foot containers and $300 for 40-foot containers for port-to-port movements from U.S. West Coast ports.

   ' $300 for 20-foot containers and $400 for 40-foot containers for cargo moving from intermodal points through U.S. West Coast ports.

   ' $300 for 20-foot containers and $400 for 40-foot container for port-to-port movements from U.S. East and Gulf coasts ports.

   ' $200 for 20-foot containers and $400 for 40-foot containers for cargo moving from intermodal points through U.S. East and Gulf coasts ports.

   ' For reefer cargo the increases will be $400 for 20-foot containers and $500 for 40-foot containers, regardless of which coast the port is located on and whether the shipment is a port-to-port or intermodal move.
