MSC raises transatlantic, U.S./ECSA rates

   Liner carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. said Tuesday it will raise rates on transatlantic and U.S./South America cargo beginning April 1.

   The eastbound transatlantic increases are $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container for shipments from the United States, Canada and Mexico to Western Europe and the Western Mediterranean; and $320 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container for shipments from the United States, Canada and Mexico to Baltic and Scandinavian ports.

   From the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain, Portugal, southern France and Israel) to the United States, the increases are $200 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.

   From the Unites States to the East Coast of South America, the increases are $150 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container or high-cube container.

   MSC also said it would assess a $200-per-TEU bunker surcharge on shipments from the United States to the East Coast of South America and Venezuela.
