MSC revises North Europe/Med coverage

Liner carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. has released further details of changes to its northern Europe/Mediterranean services.

American Shipper reported Wednesday on the introduction of the line's new Israel Express service. MSC said Thursday the service is actually an amended version of its East Med String 1.

The rotation, which differs slightly from the version American Shipper reported Wednesday, is Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre, Alexandria, Haifa, Ashdod, Valencia and Felixstowe. The only change is Alexandria is called in place of Mersin.

The service will be operated with four vessels, though MSC did not release details about the size of the ships. The revised rotation goes into effect Aug. 23.

Meanwhile, MSC said it will also rename its East Med String 2 the Levant Express. It will have a rotation of Felixstowe, Antwerp, Valencia, Barcelona (to be confirmed), Limassol, Beirut, Lattakia, Alexandria, Mersin, Gioia Tauro, Naples and Felixstowe. The services will be operated with five unspecified vessels and begins Aug. 26.
