MSC to raise EB transpacific rates

The liner carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. said Thursday it plans to raise eastbound transpacific rates in line with recent recommendations from the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement.
The line will raise rates by $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, and $450 per 40-foot high-cube container as of Jan. 1.
The TSA, of which MSC is a member, advised lines in mid-November to seek interim all-in freight rate increases at the beginning of 2012 to restore rates to more viable levels.
MSC’s proposed increases apply to west coast, east coast and inland port intermodal moves from Asia.
