The awards cover the breadth of MTC's operations on the West Coast, including:
* First Place Coast Award Group A Stevedore for MTC's Southern California operations.
* First Place Southern California Area Award for Group A Stevedore and an award for Reduction in Injury Rate for MTC operations in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
* Second Place Group B Container Operator Lowest Injury Rate in the Washington PMA region for MTC's container operations in Puget Sound.
* Second Place Group C Container Operator Lowest Injury Rate ' Coast Level and a Reduction in Injury Rate Award in the PMA Pacific Northwest region for MTC's Portland container operations.
* Second Place Group B Stevedore Lowest Injury Rate ' Area Level in the PMA Pacific Northwest region for MTC operations in Vancouver.
* A Reduction in Injury Rate Award for the MTC operations in the PMA Northern California region.
San Francisco-based MTC has operated on the West Coast since 1931 and the U.S. East Coast since 2001. Combined, MTC has stevedoring and terminal operations in more than 26 West Coast locations, six East Coast ports and one Gulf Coast port, handling more than seven million TEUs annually.
Earlier this month it was announced that Highstar Harbor Holdings III Inc., a subsidiary of AIG Highstar Capital, has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase 100 percent of the privately held MTC Holdings, parent of port facility operator Marine Terminals Corp.
Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
AIG Highstar is a subsidiary of AIG Global Investment Group, a further subsidiary of insurance and holding company giant American International Group. AIG, based in New York City, is the fourth-largest company in the world according to the 2006 Forbes Global 2000 list.
