MTMC: EGL ON TARGET WITH SOUTHEAST LOGISTICS CONTRACT

The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command said its third-party logistics pilot contract with Eagle Global Logistics is on schedule.

Since the pilot’s implementation on June 1, Houston-based EGL has handled about 8,000 shipments. The contract runs through June 30, 2002, with two one-year renewable terms, and includes 28 military installations scattered throughout Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

“We’re pretty close to estimates on the usage,” said Frank Galluzzo, co-director of the contract for MTMC, the military surface transportation logistics unit.

The contract covers about 55,000 shipments during its duration. The Defense Logistics Agency is one of the pilot’s biggest customers with an estimated 60 percent of the freight to be moved.

MTMC said EGL has experienced some problems with the logistics management of some large-scale unit moves for the Army and Marine Corps. “We’re working through them,” Galluzzo said.
