Mumbai container terminal construction to begin soon
Work on a new offshore container terminal in the Port of Mumbai is set to begin in March and will be completed by 2010, Indian news outlets reported Wednesday.
The terminal, which is estimated to cost more than $300 million, would bring additional capacity to Mumbai's multipurpose port. Mumbai is a state-operated port located in the city of Mumbai, while the port most commonly associated with Mumbai, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port/Nhava Sheva complex, is across a bay in Navi Mumbai and handles primarily containerships. Mumbai's city port handles a broader range of cargoes.
