Murray seeking $2 million for Port of Vancouver, USA rail project

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said Friday she is including a $2 million provision in a federal transportation bill to fund the Port of Vancouver, USA's West Vancouver Freight Access project.

The project would bring new rail access to the port and enhance the port's internal rail system by:

   * Changing the main rail line into the port so that it no longer runs directly across the BNSF railway mainline, resulting in a 40 percent reduction in rail traffic delays.

   * Allowing the port to directly receive large inbound trains providing an area where unit trains can be staged, inspected, prepared and built ready for departure.

   * Adding capacity for current industrial tenants and marine customers.

The $2 million for port rail access is part of the $4.9 million Murray, the chairman of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development subcommittee, has added for project in southwest Washington.
