N.C. forms logistics task force

North Carolina’s new Logistics Task Force will convene its first meeting late this month, according to state Department of Transportation officials.

Gov. Beverly Perdue established the task force in December to review North Carolina’s roads, highways, airports, ports, multimodal transportation and railroads, make sure transportation systems are being used to full capacity and define priorities for future transportation investments.

Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton was named task force chairman.

“We must have an efficient and effective transportation system to move our people, to create jobs, and to be sure our economy is globally competitive in the 21st century,” Perdue said in statement.

The governor visited the Port of Morehead City, which handles bulk cargo, on Nov. 20.
