N.C. governor makes port tour    Gov. Bev Perdue on Nov. 20 made her first visit to a North Carolina port since becoming the state's top elected official in January. She toured the Port of Morehead City, the nation's second largest import facility for natural rubber.
   Goodyear is the port's largest natural rubber customer. In October, more than 14 million pounds of natural rubber came through the Port of Morehead City, primarily destined for the company's Fayetteville plant, according to the North Carolina Port Authority. Last year, Morehead City handled more than 155,000 tons of natural rubber from Southeast Asia. The port also distributes the rubber to tire manufactures in Virginia, Ohio, New York and Oklahoma.
   Ports in North Carolina are under state jurisdiction and the visit was an opportunity to reinforce the economic benefits of port activity with politicians who oversee the port authority's budget.
