NAM picks new VP for trade

   Linda Menghetti Dempsey has been named vice president for international economic affairs at the National Association of Manufacturers.
   She previously was a vice president at the Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT), an organization representing multinational companies that promotes free trade and foreign investment.
   At NAM her job will be to improve the global competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers by advocating for intellectual property protection, increased export financing, elimination of trade barriers and establishment of trade agreements with other countries.
   At ECAT, Dempsey worked with the executive and legislative branches to advance free trade agreements with South Korea, Central America, Singapore and Colombia. Before that she was a trade counsel for the Senate Finance Committee and was an adviser to former Sen. Bill Bradley, D-N.J., on international trade, foreign policy and immigration.
   Dempsey received her law degree at the University of California, Berkeley.
