NCBFAA to honor Evans for service    The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America will honor long-time industry executive and association volunteer William Evans during its upcoming Government Affairs Conference in Washington on Sept. 18-20.
   Evans spent more than 40 years in the freight forwarding and customs broker industry, the last 34 years as senior vice president with Philadelphia-based Barthco International. He obtained his customs broker license in 1975 and spent much of his career arranging the transportation of high value shipments that ranged from money for corporate ransoms to the entire opening collection of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
   His initial involvement with the NCBFAA was serving on its Customs Committee Automation Subcommittee. Subsequent to that assignment, Evans held positions as chair or co-chairman of the Freight Forwarding Committee, Airfreight Committee, and the Security Committee. Since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Evans participated in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism organization work group with Customs and Border Protection, as well as the Homeland Security Department's Maritime Security Act implementation group, and the Transportation Security Administration's working groups for various air cargo security programs.
   In July 2009, he opened his own firm, Evans Global Trade Consulting, with the goal of educating importers on the values of membership in C-TPAT, and exporters on the need to prepare export compliance programs as well as follow the regulations meant to control exports of items deemed critical to U.S. security.
