Nelson says Ecuador relations strong

Sen. Bill Nelson, R-Fla., while visiting Ecuador Wednesday to meet with new President Rafael Correa, said the United States and Ecuador have 'excellent relations,' according to a report in the Miami Herald.

Nelson downplayed Correa's close ties with U.S. critic Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, and said, 'There is great opportunity for good relations between the two governments.'

Nelson, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, specifically discussed drug trafficking and economic development issues in his meeting with Correa, the report said.
