New ACL hybrid vessel prepares for first voyage

   The Atlantic Star is the largest ConRo vessel ever built, with capacity for 3,800 containers, up to 1,300 cars as well as oversize and heavy machinery and project cargo. Container and ro-ro capacity on the vessel are 105 percent and 45 percent greater, respectively, than in the previous class of ships.
   The remaining four “G4” vessels ordered from Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China are expected to be delivered next year.
   The Atlantic Star is scheduled to sail to the Port of Gothenberg in Sweden, and then arrive at the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia on Jan. 3. Subsequent stops are the ports of New York/New Jersey, Norfolk and Baltimore, according to ACL’s website.
