NEW INDUSTRY GROUP FOCUSES ON GLOBAL COMMERCE

The Global Alliance for Trade Efficiency will hold its first meeting in Washington on Nov. 28.

GATE is an international industry group that’s dedicated to improving the flow of global commerce through education, modernization, and trade compliance.

“It is a private sector voice behind customs/trade efficiency and a public forum for industry partnership with governments around the world to promote customs and trade reform and modernization,” the group said.

“Customs reform and modernization will only be successfully achieved when the global business community assembles in a forum with a united goal of facilitating world trade,” the group added.

GATE’s first meeting will include a briefing and discussion with trade and national security expert Stephen Flynn. He will discuss the future of border control, customs and national security since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Flynn is a senior fellow with the National Security Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations and the author of “Beyond Border Control,” which was published in Foreign Affairs last year.
