New Long Beach port commissioner confirmed
The Long Beach City Council gave a unanimous nod Tuesday to the newest member of the city's port-governing Board of Harbor Commissioners.
The council confirmed Nick Sramek, who was nominated for the post last week by Mayor Bob Foster, to the five-member commission with little discussion.
Sramek, 63, a local aerospace engineer connected to local politics, replaces termed-out commissioner John Hancock who had served for two consecutive six-year terms.
Out of town on a business trip, Sramek was not on had to witness the vote.
His first full port commission meeting will be Monday.
The Port of Long Beach operates as a landlord port, leasing port property to private operators. The port is administered by the city's Harbor Department. The Board of Harbor Commissioners sets policy for the department and consider staff motions regarding port operations.
