New Lufthansa Cargo boss anticipates good 2007

Carsten Spohr, new chief executive officer and chairman of Lufthansa Cargo, said he expects high volume growth in international air freight in 2007.

The German airline transported 1.76 million tons of freight and mail in 2006, up 1.3 percent from 2005. The airline's annual cargo load factor jumped 2.7 points to 67.7 percent.

'It is gratifying to note that our company has even been growing faster than the market average since mid-2006,' Spohr said. 'We will continue posting high growth rates in 2007, especially in Asia traffic. Our stake in the Chinese carrier Jade Cargo International is meantime spawning excellent growth opportunities also in traffic within Asia. We are expecting the airfreight industry generally to continue growing in 2007 and Lufthansa Cargo to profit strongly again from that market growth.'

The airline will announce its 2006 annual results March 20.
