   The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command has announced the appointment of Capt. Charles C. ‘Chip’ Denman to commander of its Singapore-based Sealift Logistics Command for the Far East.
   Denman replaces Capt. Jim O. Romano, who will return to the Military Sealift Command’s Washington headquarters, after heading the Far East command since March 2008.
   Prior to this appointment, Denman served as legislative advisor to the chief of naval personnel. He also served as a strategist to the staff of the undersecretary of defense, completed two office tours with the chief of naval operations, and served as a congressional fellow on the staff of U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
   The Sealift Logistics Command in the Far East is responsible for the operation of Military Sealift Command-controlled ships that provide support services to the U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. 7th Fleet.
   The Military Sealift Command operates about 110 noncombatant, U.S. merchant mariner-crewed ships that replenish U.S. Navy ships at sea, conduct specialized missions, and strategically preposition combat cargo at sea around the world.
