New Military Sealift Command head for Atlantic
The U.S. Navy has appointed Capt. Samuel R. Norton as commander of the Military Sealift Command’s Atlantic operation, based in Norfolk, Va.
Norton replaces outgoing commander Capt. Michael G. Graham. He last served as commander of amphibious assault ship USS Nassau, which he led on its final deployment prior to decommissioning earlier this year. Norton has also held a variety of both sea and shore-side commands.
Graham’s next assignment is with the Naval Surface Force Atlantic as its chief of staff, also based in Norfolk.
The Military Sealift Command operates about 110 noncombatant, civilian-crewed ships that replenish U.S. Navy ships, conduct specialized missions, preposition combat cargo at sea around the world and move military cargo and supplies used by deployed U.S. and coalition forces.
