New Orleans port back to normal

The Port of New Orleans reported Tuesday that all terminals and truck gates are operating on normal schedules following a three-day shutdown to ride out Hurricane Isaac and restore power to portions of the port.
Since the U.S. Coast Guard fully reopened the Mississippi River to commercial traffic on Sept. 1, terminal operators have worked a total of 19 vessels, including nine container and five breakbulk vessels.
Six more vessels – two containerships and four breakbulk vessels – are scheduled to arrive Wednesday.
The port authority said only two vessels bound for New Orleans during the four-day river closure canceled their calls in favor of other ports. – Eric Kulisch
