New POMTOC system includes beefed up technology The new GateVision gate operating system now in place for the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company common user terminal at the port contains several new features that company officials say significantly improve gate security.
   As part of a $4.5 million gate and communications upgrade at the terminal    POMTOC has the latest version of the GateVision system from Tideworks Technology installed.
   The system integrates voice communications, video information and the overall terminal operating system in a single interface that is intuitive and user friendly.
   It also has driver face identification cameras at the lane kiosks that heighten security, according to Tideworks. Other features include 'reversible lanes,' allowing as many as 12 inbound lanes during peak inbound traffic periods, and as many as eight outbound lanes, if needed. The new gate system has 16 unmanned gates overall.
   'The installation of GateVision gives us the opportunity to make truly significant improvements in gate processing efficiency and speed by enabling staff to easily collect container numbers, license plates, and other vital pieces of information that are key to maintaining the highest levels of security,' said John Ballestero, POMTOC general manager.
   Seattle-based Tideworks has its gate and container yard technology in place at ports around the United States, as well as Europe and Panama.
