New Pusan terminal receives first crane

Pusan Newport Co. Ltd., the company that is developing a large container complex in the port of Pusan in South Korea, received Sunday its first piece of terminal equipment, a double cantilever rail mounted gantry crane.

The crane’s arrival marks the first of a total order of 81 units being constructed by Korean Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Co.

The new terminal is scheduled to open in January with three 350-meter-long container berths. Another three berths will become operational in 2007 followed by three more in 2009. When complete the terminal will have an estimated handling capacity of 5.5 million TEUs.
