New York, Philadelphia receive additional transit, port security funds

U.S. supplemental transit and port security grants will funnel $64.2 million into the New York and Philadelphia regions.

Richard Canas, director of Homeland Security and Preparedness in New Jersey, said his state will also share the funds, which he said will make life safer for hundreds of thousands of commuters.

The grants provide $37.2 million for transit security in the New York, northern New Jersey, and Connecticut area, along with $14.9 million for port security.

In southern New Jersey and Philadelphia, $5.9 million has been awarded for transit security along with $6.2 million for ports in the Delaware Bay area.
