NileDutch taps Transmetrics for empty container relocation optimization

   In addition, the partnership with NileDutch will allow Transmetrics to launch its new product, dubbed “AssetMetrics,” which increases the quality of a company’s historical data and uses an intelligent algorithm to produce demand predictions.
   According to NileDutch, Transmetrics in previous tests was able to increase data quality by around 75 percent during the enrichment process, after which the system creates a demand forecast model, which is then optimized by the algorithm.
   The technology, which has reportedly already helped increase forecasting demand accuracy 25 percent to 50 percent compared with prior in-house projections, “will allow the rebalancing of assets across the whole NileDutch network at minimal cost,” the carrier said.
   AssetMetrics will be connected to NileDutch’s transportation management system (TMS) to ensure a constant exchange of information, taking into account maintenance costs, future demand at each location, the assets that will be returned, and the cost to reposition them.
   “We had been looking for a partner who could help us streamline our empty container flows for a long time,” said Carlo Zaalberg, global director of logistics at NileDutch. “There are different IT solutions on the market, but we chose Transmetrics over other providers because they proved their technical expertise and also demonstrated a deep knowledge of the logistics industry and container shipping in particular, which is very difficult to find.”
