NIT League mulls rail bill
There was still no word at the end of last week on whether the National Industrial Transportation League is supporting a new railroad regulation bill.
The country’s largest organization for shippers, NIT League said its railroad transportation committee met in Atlanta last week to discuss S. 2889, the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2009.
A recommendation from the rail committee was made to the NIT League’s board, but has not yet been voted on.
Last May, the NIT League voted to support a different bill to remove limited antitrust immunity for railroads.
But the current bill does not include the proposal to remove the antitrust protection for railroads, though one of its key architects, Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., said he would like to see it in the final version of the law.
