Nober will not seek second term as STB chairman

Roger Nober, U.S. Surface Transportation Board chairman, told President Bush this week he will not seek a second term with the agency.

“I have decided that it is best for me to leave government to pursue new challenges,” Nober said in a letter Monday to the White House.

Nober said he would resign his position as STB chairman and member by Jan. 3. His current term expires Dec. 31.

Nober, a Republican from Maryland, was sworn in as the board’s sixth member and designated as its second chairman on Nov. 26, 2002. He served as the board’s only member for 54 weeks in 2003 and 2004.

Prior to his work with STB, Nober was counselor to U.S. Deputy Secretary for Transportation Michael Jackson, and chief counsel with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
