The carrier said it operated the only regular direct roll-on/roll-off service from the U.S. Gulf and East coasts into Libya until unrest forced the temporary suspension of services in February.
The company said the lifting of sanctions and improved security in the region permits it to resume service.
“The increasing stabilization in the eastern part of Libya has now reached a stage where we have found it safe for the crew, vessel and cargo to re-establish the service and start accepting cargo for Benghazi on a regular basis. As the situation improves other ports in Libya will be added,” said René Sivertsen, line manager of Nordana.
In addition to U.S. exports, cargo from Spain, Italy, Egypt and Turkey are accepted on the regular thrice-weekly service. In addition to rolling stock, Nordana ships accommodate breakbulk cargo including oversize and heavy-lift times and containers. The ships have their own gear and are fully self-sustained.
Nordana said its ship, the Skanderborg, will load in Houston on Sept. 19, Jacksonville on Sept. 23, Savannah on Sept. 24 and Baltimore on Sept. 28.
